The 5 at 5 5 minutes, 5 stories, 5 o’clock…

EACH WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you five things you need to know before you head out the door.

1. #ABORTION: The Government is to legislate to allow for abortion within the terms of the X Case ruling. The decision to draft both legislation and regulations was made by ministers at their weekly Cabinet meeting this morning.

2. #FUNERAL: There were emotional scenes in Ventry earlier today as huge crowds gathered to pay their respects at the funeral of Kerry football legend Páidí Ó Sé.

3. #GROWTH: Some good economic news is always welcome before Christmas and today’s Quarterly National Accounts revealed that the Irish economy grew by 0.2 per cent between 1 July and 30 September.

4. #EU2013: The Government has defended its €244,000 spend on its special website to mark the forthcoming Presidency of the European Union. A spokesperson told TheJournal.ie that the site will provide information, live streams, breaking news and statements on the EU and Ireland.

5. #SAD, SAD STORY: A real-life Christmas grinch struck at a hospital in London last weekend and stole a number of wrapped presents, including Nintendo DS consoles, DVD players and games, intended as Christmas gifts for seriously ill children. But in a much more festive spirit, Lord Alan Sugar and Celtic Football Club have both offered to replace the items.
