The 5 at 5 5 minutes, 5 stories, 5 o’clock…

EVERY WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you the five stories you need to know before you head out the door.

1. #HEATHER PERRIN: Former District Court judge Heather Perrin was today sentenced to two and a half years in jail after being found guilty of deceiving an elderly client out of half of his estate when he drew out his will.

2. #INFANT DEATH: The HSE is to investigate the death of a newborn baby boy in Dublin last week. The child was born at Cavan General Hospital but was later transferred to a Neonatal unit in the Rotunda, where he died on Saturday.

3. #ABORTION: The Justice Minister Alan Shatter said today it was “not an option” to leave out the provision for abortion in cases where there is a risk of suicide in any legislation that is brought forward by the government. Shatter also said women were being treated as “less equal citizens” because the current legal framework for abortion denies their access to medical treatment they might need – while men needing medical treatment in Ireland face no barriers.

4. #ARREST: Gardaí investigating the murder of paramilitary leader Alan Ryan almost three months ago have arrested a man aged in his 50s this morning. The man is being detained at Coolock Garda Station.

5. #LOUIS WALSH: X Factor judge Louis Walsh says he has been “completely vindicated” by the decision of the publisher of The Irish Sun newspaper to settle a defamation case taken by Walsh for €500,000. The Sun read an apology in court, in which it “fully accepts that the alleged assault did not occur”.
