1. #KIDNAP: The Tánaiste and Foreign Affairs Minister Eamon Gilmore has today issued a statement calling for the immediate release of an Irish citizen who was among a group of oil-workers kidnapped from a BP oil field in Algeria. Consular assistance is being provided to the man’s family.

2. #HMV: It has been confirmed this evening that David Carson, a partner in Deloitte Ireland, has been appointed as a receiver to HMV Ireland. The move had been expected and puts the company’s 16 stores in Ireland and around 300 jobs in doubt.

3. #LONDON: Two people have died following a helicopter crash in central London this morning. Metropolitan Police confirmed that two people were found dead at the scene near Wandsworth Road, beside the Vauxhall tube station. It is understood that the victims include the pilot and another person who was on the ground.

4. #AER LINGUS: An Aer Lingus flight was forced to make an emergency landing at Dublin Airport this morning after people reported smelling smoke in the cabin. The plane, which was heading to Lisbon, turned back to the airport with “technical difficulties” shortly after take off. It landed safely at 10.20am and no injuries have been reported.

5. #HORSEMEAT: Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore has clarified when the government was made aware that horse and pig DNA had been found in beef products in Irish supermarkets, telling the Dáil the first samples were collected for testing in mid-November and the Food Safety Authority of Ireland received the full results last Friday.

Meanwhile, the British Prime Minister David Cameron has called for an investigation into the supply chain of beef burgers in the UK after horse DNA was found in Tesco burgers.
