The 9 at 9 Oasis fans stress over pre-sale, asylum seekers in Tipperary intimidated, and an inside-look at the Democratic National Convention.

LAST UPDATE | 28 Aug

GOOD MORNING.

The Journal brings you the top stories to start your morning.

Intimidation

1. Women who have been living in Dundrum House in Tipperary for the past fortnight have described their dismay at the conditions facing them on the site, between hostility from local people and having their lives upended by being forced to move there.

They told The Journal that the experience of the past two weeks, from being moved with little notice in the early hours, to finding the site barely prepared to shelter them, amounted to it being a “draining and emotionally horrible” experience.

Offers

2. Thousands of students looking to attend third-level will receive an offer today.

More than 83,500 have applied to the CAO this year, and the first round of offers are to go out at 2pm today via text or email.

Oasis reunion

3. Oasis fans have complained of delays with a pre-sale system for tickets for the highly-anticipated comeback gigs.

The special ballot was put in place “to ensure the maximum number of fans have a fair opportunity to access tickets”.

IDF

4. At least 10 Palestinians were killed in Israeli raids and strikes in several towns in the north of the occupied West Bank, a spokesman for the Red Crescent said today.

DNC

5. The Journal‘s Christine Bohan has given us a behind-the-scenes look at this year’s Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

Generation rent

6. New research has revealed which counties have the most – and least – number of homes available to rent and buy.

Dublin ranked eighth worst for buying but least difficult for renting from an availability point of view.

Garda seizure

7. Gardaí in Donegal have seized €3,080 of vaping products containing suspected illegal cannabinoids (THC, HHC and HHCP), during the course of searches carried out Bundoran and Donegal Town.

Young hopeful

8. Mark O’Mahony scored his first senior goal for Brighton as they cruised to a 4-0 win over Crawley Town in the Carabao Cup second round.

The Cork teenager came on as an early replacement for new signing Matt O’Riley from Celtic and finished calmly on 86 minutes after winning back possession near the 18-yard box.

O’Mahony, 19, may be in contention for the Republic of Ireland U21s’ upcoming Euro qualifiers with Turkiye and Latvia.

Airport alcohol limits

9. Ryanair Chief Michael O’Leary has called for alcohol limits in airports to tackle a rise in disorder on flights.

O’Leary said passengers should be restricted to two drinks per journey to curb what he says is an increase in antisocial behaviour and violence.
