1. #DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: The Immigrant Council of Ireland today warned that immigrants are “feeling trapped” in violent relationships because they fear reporting abuse could affect their ability to remain in the country.

2. #DUBLIN ZOO: A two year-old girl is in a serious condition in hospital after being attacked by a tapir, a normally-docile animal, in Dublin Zoo yesterday. The mother of the child was also attacked as she attempted to intervene.

3. #SHANNON: Passenger numbers at Shannon Airport are up for the second month in a row after five years of decline, with an overall increase of 9.4 per cent compared with the same period last year.

4. #JOBS: A Dublin nursing home and retirement facility has announced plans to create 110 jobs in the areas of nursing, caring, catering, administration, managerial and support services.

5. #PARADE: Northern Ireland’s Secretary of State has called for a republican parade in Tyrone to be called off amid criticism the event glorifies terrorism, reports UTV. The Tyrone Volunteers Day Parade will mark the deaths of two IRA men who were blown up by a bomb they plotted to plant in Castlederg.

6. #ANTISOCIAL: Dublin Chamber of Commerce has said “aggressive” street begging and open drug-dealing is putting high-spending tourists off visiting the capital. The issue will be raised at next month’s Dublin policing forum, the Irish Times reports.

7. #LEPROSY: A second case of leprosy in Ireland has been diagnosed in the north-east of the country, following confirmation of a case by the HSE’s Dublin North East division in June.

8. #PAKISTAN: The United States has evacuated all non-emergency staff from its consulate in the Pakistani city of Lahore, citing “specific threats” amid a worldwide alert over Al-Qaeda intercepts.

9. #RACISM:Oprah Winfrey, one of the world’s wealthiest women, says a sales assistant in Switzerland recently refused to serve her in an upmarket handbag shop – saying the merchandise was “too expensive” for her.
