The 9 at 9 Nine things you really, really need to know by 9am: Ireland’s crisis dominates the G20 talks; PWC suspends staff at centre of Hot Mail allegations and red faces (and red hair) at Dublin Zoo.

Every morning, TheJournal.ie brings you nine things you really need to know by 9am.

1. #DEBT CRISIS Ireland’s sovereign debt crisis has been dominating the G20 talks in Seoul. EU member states were forced to issue a statement reassuring investors, that in the event of a restructuring of any EU state’s debt, they would not be forced to take a writedown on the value of their bondholdings. But Angela Merkel publicly repeated her demand that taxpayers alone should not have bear the burden of the debt crisis after 2013. Taoiseach Brian Cowen has told the Irish Independent that international investors have been misinterpreting Merkel’s comments, which he describes as “not helpful”.

2. #HOT MAIL Three male workers at PWC have been suspended in the investigation into the Hot Mail scandal, according to the Irish Sun. Meanwhile, the story has been covered all over the world, generating headlines in news organisations in New York and Australia. The Mirror reports that another email scandal is brewing at a second accountancy firm.

3. #CONVOY Two Irish men are understood to be aboard a ship that was taken hostage in Libya yesterday. They were among a group of activists who had been attempting to break Israel’s siege of Gaza as part of the ‘Road to Hope’ convoy.

4. #OOPS Dublin Zoo is running an ‘orang-utan week’ – and is letting ginger kids (or kids wearing red wigs) in free. The move caused some controversy on Twitter yesterday, with many users claiming the promotion was insensitive and stigmatised red-haired children.

5. #BYELECTION The government is to seek an early date for the hearing of its appeal against the High Court ruling on the Donegal South West byelection.

6. #NICE A British brother and sister who unearthered a rare Chinese vase in a clear-out of a suburban house were stunned when it sold for over €50 million.

7. #CHILDREN Barnardos is claiming that children will go hungry if the government implements social welfare cuts in the Budget.

8. #SUDDEN CARDIAC DEATH The incidence of sudden cardiac death (SCD) among young people in the Republic is higher than in a number of other European countries.

9. #SCIENCE Evolution may have begun about 400 million years earlier than previously thought, scientists studying rock formations in Scotland have claimed. Tell that to the female staff of PWC…
