1. #BODY: A post-mortem examination will take place today on the body of a man who was found in a Galway pub yesterday. The man, named locally as John Kenny, was discovered by his family yesterday afternoon in Oughterad. His hands were tied and gardaí are treating the death as suspicious.

2. #NORRIS: Independent TD Mattie McGrath has announced that he will not support Senator Davis Norris’ nomination for the presidential election. Norris now has only 18 of the 20 signatures needed to enter the Áras race, and will need to secure extra support before the nominations close on Wednesday.

3. #TWITTER: The microblogging website Twitter, which has an estimated 200 million users across the world, has announced that it is to set up an international office in Dublin. Jobs minister Richard Bruton told RTÉ’s Morning Ireland that the new operation would be an “international office to support their growth”.

4. #CLERICAL ABUSE: Archbishop Diarmuid Martin is to face questioning today, alongside the publishing of a report from Amnesty International Ireland, which compares some recorded acts of abuse as “torture” and outlines the public’s reaction to the revelations of sexual abuse within the Catholic Church.

5. #JOBS: US multinational company Bioware Ireland, is to open a customer service centre in Galway, with the creation of 200 jobs in total. Workers at the centre will customer provide support for players of one of EA’s major new releases, Star Wars: The Old Republic.

6. #EUROZONE: Germany’s Chancellor, Angela Merkel, has ruled out the prospect of allowing Greece to default on its debts. Merkel said that eurozone leaders needed to create a ‘firewall’ around the debt-laden country to avoid market attacks, Bloomberg reports.

7. #UK: Six men have been charged with terrorism offences in Birmingham, according to Britain’s West Midlands Police. Four of the men were charged with preparing for an act of terrorism and two with failing to disclose information.

8. #INDIA: More than two million people have been displaced in India following torrential rains and flooding in the Orissa, Uttar Predesh and Bihar states, the BBC reports. More than 80 people have died in flood-affected areas.

9. #ASTHMA: Moderate alcohol consumption may cut the risk of developing asthma, according to the results of a new Danish study. Results of the research, which was presented at the European Respiratory Society’s Annual Congress yesterday, suggested that those who drank between 1-6 units of alcohol a week were less likely to develop asthma in comparison to teetotallers.

Researchers pointed out, however, that excess alcohol consumption caused health problems, the Independent reports.
