The 9 at 9 Fine Gael is on course to lead the new government; pressure mounts on Libya’s Gaddafi; and the Department of Foreign Affairs says it still has concerns for one Irish person missing in Christchurch.

Every morning, TheJournal.ie brings you nine things you really need to know with your morning coffee.

1. #GE11: Fine Gael look set to lead the new government – but not with an overall majority, according to an RTÉ/Millward Brown Lansdowne Poll exit poll.

The poll indicates that Fine Gael will secure 36.1 per cent of the vote – the best result for the party since 1982 – and Labour looks set to secure 20.5 per cent support, which would be the best ever result for the party.

2. #GE11: Turnout topped 70 per cent at some stations yesterday, according to reports from various polling stations.

The Irish Times reports that a turnout of 78 or 79 per cent was being predicted for Mayo – the constituency of Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny.

3. #LIBYA: Pressure is mounting on Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi as protests in the country move towards the heart of the capital, Tripoli. Al Jazeera reports that soldiers have allegedly been casting off their uniforms and joining anti-regime protesters - meanwhile, the US has said it will impose unilateral and multilateral sanctions on Libya, reports the Irish Times.

Efforts to evacuate a remaining 20 Irish people from Libya are continuing today.

4. #NEW ZEALAND: The death toll following the Christchurch earthquake has risen to 145 people, according to local police.

More than 200 people are still missing, with nobody rescued since last Wednesday, reports RTÉ. The Department of Foreign Affairs says it has concerns about one Irish person.

5. #CREDIT UNIONS: A bailout of 13 credit unions has cost the Irish League of Credit Unions €45.5 million.

This is the most recent batch of credit unions seeking financial assistance from the league - bringing the total number to 20, reports the Irish Examiner.

6. #CORK CRASH: The airline involved in the tragic crash at Cork Airport in which six people died has decided to cancel its Belfast-Cork service.
Manx2.com launched the route just last year, however the company has decided to remove the service following a operational review, reports the Irish Independent.

7. #FERTILITY: Ireland has the highest fertility rate in the 27 EU states – however the country’s birthrate is still too low to sustain the population.

Figures by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) showed that the average number of children per woman rose from 2.05 in 2007 to 2.07 in 2008. However, a rate of 2.1 is required to sustain the population – even in the absence of migration, reports the Irish Times.

8. #OBAMA: US president Barack Obama looks likely to visit Ireland in May.

The speculated visit would coincide with Obama’s other European engagements, the Irish Times reports, however efforts would be made to ensure the visit would not clash with the arrival of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth – who has been invited to Ireland in May or June.

9. #SUSPENDED: French fashion house Dior has suspended one of its top designers, John Galliano, following accusations that he assaulted a couple and used anti-semitic slurs after a drinking session in Paris.

The head of Dior, Sidney Toledano said: “The House of Dior declares with the greatest firmness its policy of zero tolerance with regard to any antisemitic or racist statement or attitude”. A police inquiry into the accusations is now underway.
