1. #CORK DEATH: Investigations have been launched by Cork County Council and the Health and Safety Authority following the death of a 47-year-old council worker, who died yesterday after being struck with a pole near a reservoir near Cork city, RTÉ reports.

2. #AUSTERITY: Rolling road closures will be in place in Dublin city centre this lunchtime due to an organised anti-austerity protest ahead of the Budget. Demonstrators are opposing measures including the household charge, proposed water taxes and septic tank inspection bills.

3. #PRIMARY CARE: Health Minister James Reilly added two hospitals in his north Dublin constituency to a list of places chosen for primary care centres on the evening before it was announced by the Government, according to documents seen by the Irish Times. The locations were not included on the top 30 priority list that had been drawn up by the HSE.

4. #SAVITA: The husband of Savita Halappanavar may lodge a complaint with the Ombudsman to assert ownership of his late wife’s medical records, the Irish Times reports.

5. #INSURANCE: Laya Healthcare customers face a hike of up to 13 per cent in the new year, the insurer has announced. The company cited the increasing number of insurance claims and escalating cost of providing medical treatments as the reason behind the increase.

6. #EGYPT: Crowds of anti-government protesters were forced to disperse from Cairo’s Tahrir Square after being apparently targeted with tear gas overnight. Hundreds of people had gathered to protest after the country’s president passed a decree giving himself sweeping powers.

7. #FLOODS: One man has died in England after intense flooding hit the country and the rest of Britain. Dangerous conditions are set to continue over the weekend.

8. #THAILAND: Tear gas has been thrown at crowds of protesters in Bangkok seeking to overthrow the Thai government, with reports of between 300 and 400 protesters clashing with police, the BBC reports.

9. #END OF AN ERA: Larry Hagman, who played villain JR Ewing in the hit series Dallas, has died in Texas at the age of 81 following a battle with throat cancer.
