1. #STRAUSS-KAHN: Head of the IMF Dominique Strauss-Kahn is being questioned by New York police about allegations made by a hotel chamber maid that he sexually assaulted her. Kahn, who was marked as a potential candidate in next year’s French general elections, is expected to be charged with a criminal sexual act, unlawful imprisonment and attempted rape, RTÉ reports.

2.#QUEEN’S VISIT: A massive security operation has been launched ahead of the visit of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth on Tuesday. Gardaí are patrolling many points along the route to be travelled by the Queen, and parking restrictions are already being enforced in many areas.

3. #SONY: Sony has begun restoring its PlayStation Network in the US and Europe following a large-scale security breach that shut it down for almost a month, Zdnet.com reports.

4. #ASSISTED SUICIDE: Voters in the Swiss city of Zurich are to go the polls to decide on ‘suicide tourism’ laws. The BBC reports that some residents are uncomfortable about so many people travelling to the country to end their lives as a result of assisted suicide being illegal in their home countries.

5. #WARSHIP: The United States has shown the warship that buried Osama bin Laden to the media: about two dozen journalists were allowed onto the USS Carl Vinson warship, however they were told that nobody aboard the carrier would talk “any operational details that involve Osama bin Laden”, the AP reports.

6. #MISSISSIPPI: For the first time in four decades, army engineers in the United States have opened floodgates on the Mississippi, Louisiana, in an attempt to save cities dotted along the river. The move is expected to engulf up to 3,000 – sq miles of land, reports the BBC.

7. #LIBYA: The head of the British armed forces has said that NATO must “widen” its campaign in Libya by removing some of the restrictions on bombing targets, the BBC reports.

8. #EUROVISION: The Eurovision is heading to Azerbaijan next year, after Ell/Nikki scored 221 points with their love song, Running Scared. Ireland’s entry, Jedward, secured 8th place.
