The 9 at 9 Nine things to know this morning: the final edition of the News of the World is printed; six officers are injured in rioting in Antrim; and a museum to honour celebrities’ leftovers opens in Cornwall…

EVERY MORNING, TheJournal.ie brings you the nine things you need to know with your morning coffee.

1. #NOTW: The final edition of the News of the World has been published today after 168 years in circulation, with the headline “Thank You & Goodbye”.

The folding of the title comes as revelations about phone hacking by employees at the newspaper gained momentum last week. News Corporation chief Rupert Murdoch and former editor Rebekah Brooks have both insisted they knew nothing about the incidents, which are alleged to include hacking into the phones of murder victims and their families. Some 22 full-time and 10 part-time jobs will be lost with the closure of the newspaper’s Irish version.

2. #ANTRIM: Six police officers in Antrim were injured during rioting last night, when a hijacked bus was rammed into their vehicle shortly after midnight, reports UTV. A dispute over flags erupted into violence in Ballyclare yesterday, with up to 100 people throwing petrol bombs and missiles.

3. #ROSCOMMON: A tape of a speech made by Taoiseach Enda Kenny last February has revealed that he vowed to “protect and defend” accident and emergency services at Roscommon Hospital, the Sunday Business Post reveals. Kenny has denied he made election promises about the hospital that he cannot deliver.

4. #KERRY: Five wedding guests were injured in a Kerry hotel yesterday when a lift fell at least three floors before hitting the ground. The five were taken to from the Plaza hotel in Killarney to Kerry General Hospital, where their injuries are not thought to be life threatening, RTÉ reports. The Health and Safety Authority is to begin an investigation into the incident.

5. #COMMEMORATION: A 20th national day of commemoration to honour all Irish people who died in past wars or during peacekeeping missions with the United Nations takes place today. President Mary McAleese and Taoiseach Enda Kenny will attend the ceremony at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, RTÉ reports.

6. #BANKERS’ BONUSES: Senior management at Bank of Ireland will be paid more than €7 million in bonuses this year – in spite of the state becoming the majority shareholder in the troubled institution, the Irish Independent reports.

7. #ISRAEL: Israel plans to expel 118 foreign, pro-Palestinian activists from its borders within 72 hours. The activists were jailed over the weekend after being denied entry to the state.

8. #ENVIRONMENT: Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard has announced that the country’s 500 worst carbon polluters will have to pay 23 Australian dollars (€17) for every ton of carbon dioxide they emit, the AP reports. However, the government has vowed to compensate households hit with higher power bills under a plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

9. #LEFTOVERS: Sure to send a shiver down the spine of anyone living in the public eye, the Museum of Celebrity Leftovers has opened in a beachside cafe in Cornwall – boasting an array of sandwich crusts, crumbs and leftover cakes once graced by the lips of the famous. So, if you fancy splashing out £300 for the Prince of Wales’ leftover bread pudding or stealing a glance at David Bailey’s old cheese sandwich, this is the place for you… although we recommend steering clear of the remains Pete Doherty’s cheese, tomato and pesto toastie.
