The 9 at 9 Nine things you should know this morning.

EVERY MORNING,TheJournal.ie brings you the nine stories you need to know as you kick off your day:

1. #DERRY: A port mortem examination is due to be carried out on the body of an 18-year-old woman, who was fatally shot in Co Derry yesterday morning. A second woman was also seriously injured in yesterday’s attack.

Yesterday, a 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and another two people were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender in connection with the attack.

2. #RTÉ: A Labour senator has called for the resignation of RTÉ chairman Tom Savage following last week’s meeting of senior management from the broadcaster and the BAI with the Oireachtas communications committee. Senator John Whelan has accused Savage of “spin doctoring” – and vows to second TD Mattie McGrath’s calls for Savage’s resignation when the committee meets with the chairman on Tuesday.

3. #BAILOUT: Fianna Fáil leader Micheal Martin has said Ireland is likely to require another bailout after the current international funding programme runs out at the end of the year. Speaking to The Sunday Times, Martin said there had only ever been a 50/50 chance of Ireland returning to the markets by 2013, but that rising bond yields and a fall in the euro has made the need for extra funding ever more likely.

4. #ITALY: At least three people have been killed in northern Italy, following a 6.0 magnitude earthquake in the middle of last night. About 50 other people were injured in the quake, which was felt across Bologna, Ferrara, Verona and Mantua, the BBC reports. Rescue efforts are continuing this morning.

5. #WAITING TIMES: Hospital waiting times have risen significantly in the short life of the present government – with adult waiting times up 24 per cent, according to figures obtained by the Sunday Business Post. However, waiting times for children appear to have fallen by 12 per cent over the same period.

6. #G8: The summit of the G8 world leaders at Camp David, near Washington, has ended with pledges of growth and job creation. While US President Barack Obama commented on a consensus to promote growth as a common interest, German Chancellor Angela Merkel stressed that austerity measures must also continue, CNN reports.

7. #NATO: Nato leaders are meeting in Chicago today to discuss plans for an orderly withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan by 2014. While the US is expected to focus on a gradual withdrawal of support from the country, France will likely repeat its pledge to remove all combat troops from Afghanistan by the end of this year, Reuters reports.

8. #SYRIA: At least nine people have been killed and hundreds have been injured in car bomb attack in eastern Syria. Activists have said the blast occurred near to military intelligence offices – the latest in a string of such attacks on security agency locations, indicating the possible involvement of al-Qaeda, reports the Guardian.

9. #HITCHED: Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan are not ones to rest on their laurels: not content with a graduation from medical school (Chan) and an historic IPO (Zuckerberg) this week, the couple decided that the time was ripe to surprise friends and family with a wedding.

After meeting at Harvard almost ten years ago, the college sweethearts tied the knot at a small ceremony in California – and duly updated their statuses to “married”.
