1. #SEIZURE: Two men have been charged in connection with a seizure of cannabis in Co Donegal following a special sitting of Sligo District Court last night. Both were charged with possession, intent to supply, and the cultivation of cannabis, and were remanded in custody until next Friday, reports RTÉ.

2. #REFERENDUM: The Yes campaign remains in a position for success next Thursday, according to three polls published this morning. However, while still showing a lead for the Yes side, the Red C poll published in this morning’s Sunday Business Post indicates support for the Treaty has narrowed significantly since last week.

3. #REFERENDUM: Influential independent TD Shane Ross has finally announced his position on the Fiscal Compact -urging a No vote. Writing in the Sunday Independent today, Ross said he will reject the Treaty as means of postponement until the situation in Europe and, particularly, the implications of the Greek crisis become clearer.

4. #QUALIFICATIONS: Around half of the staff at the Department of Finance do not have any qualifications in business, economics or related fields, it has emerged.

Data published by Michael Noonan shows that a significant number of his staff, who between them have a total of 422 qualifications in various areas and levels, do not have qualifications in the fields most closely related to the Department’s work.

5. #WEATHERWATCH: Get set for a sunny Sunday as the warm weather will continue today, with temperatures of 19 – 23 C forecast by Met Éireann. Those on south coast have been warned of light clouds and showers later in the afternoon.

6. #SYRIA: The Arab League is to hold an emergency meeting over a massacre in the Syrian town of Houla over the weekend, in which dozens of people died. The UN says that 92 people, including 32 children under the age of 10, were killed by government troops in the attack.

7. #VATICAN: The Pope’s butler, Paolo Gabriele, has been charged in connection with a series of media leaks currently being investigated by the Vatican. Vatican magistrates allege that the 46-year-old illegally took confidential documents which revealed alleged corruption, mismanagement and internal conflicts, reports the Washington Post.

8. #AFGHANISTAN: A Nato airstrike has killed eight members of the same family in village in Paktia, Afghanistan, local officials have said. The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) coalition has said it is ware of the claims and is investigating the incident, Al Jazeera reports.

9. #DIVORCE HOTEL: Check in married on Friday, check out with signed divorce papers on Sunday: that’s the concept behind the ‘Divorce Hotel’ currently operating in the Netherlands.

The weekend break offers unhappy spouses access to mediators and independent lawyers so they can separate speedily, according to Jim Halfens, the Dutch entrepreneur who masterminded the project. Halfens now wants to expand the business by breaking America, reports the New York Times.
