The 9 at 9 Nine things you really, really need to know by 9am: the three wise negotiators arrive in Ireland, the US gets a new presidential candidate, and the world gets a new superhero.

Every morning, TheJournal.ie brings you nine things you really need to know with your morning coffee.

1. #BAILOUT: The three wise negotiators arrive in Ireland today. As representatives from the EU, the IMF and the European Commission land in Dublin, the Irish Times reports that the government will battle to prevent an increase to the €6 billion adjustment already proposed for 2011, and the €15 billion four year target.  Yet there are signs the government is still in denial. In Dromoland yesterday, Batt O’Keeffe said: “We’ve got to play poker over the next couple of days to see what cards these people have to play, what exactly they have in mind. We would like to see the colour of their money.” Meanwhile, the Independent reports this morning that the government is launching a last-ditch bid to avoid the bailout. It wants to borrow money for the banks — supported by a guarantee from the European Central Bank.

2. #BALLYCOTTON TRAGEDY: Postmortems on the bodies of Zoe and Ella Butler have revealed that they died of asphyxia – some reports suggest that one of the children was strangled. New details have also emerged about the horrific circumstances in which Una Butler learned of the deaths of her children and her husband. Having heard news of the car crash, she had concerns about her husband, and had already left her office and was driving home, when a garda car stopped her at Ballymaloe and told her of her husband’s death. Gardaí waited until her brother arrived to inform her that her children had also been found dead.

3. #NEWCASTLE WEST: Garda interviews with a man in connection with the deaths of two children and two adults in Newcastle West were temporarily interrupted yesterday, after he was taken to the Cork University Hospital for treatment on his hand. Results of postmortems, which were carried out yesterday, are expected to show that the four died from multiple stab wounds. Meanwhile, the family of Sarah Hines have spoken to reporters about her death, and that of her two children and friend. Quoted in today’s Examiner, stepfather Peter Rolfe said: “When you looked at Amy, she recognised you, she had a lovely smile, she lit up the world. And Reece, you could write a book about Reece. He was brilliant and I’d say he had Buddha nature. Every second, every moment was absolutely precious and you just had to live it as much as you can..From the second he got up he was alive.”

4. #NAKED SLEEPWALKER: Donal Kinsella says he is “exhilarated and vindicated” to receive the largest ever libel payout in the history of the state.  The award has led to criticism of a system which allowed for “some of the most excessive libel awards in the Western hemisphere”.

5. #COURTS: A man accused of the rape and assault of his daughter on multiple occasions over 15 years, denied to gardaí that he was the father of her child, a court was told yesterday.

6. #TEENAGERS: A seminar has heard that parents are “indifferent” to their teenagers’ drinking habits, the Irish Times reports.

7. #QANTAS: Up to 40 Rolls-Royce engines on Airbus A380 superjumbos worldwide will need to be replaced, according to Australian airline Qantas.

8. #SARAH PALIN: Sarah Palin has all but signalled her intention to run for the US presidency, and believes she can beat Barack Obama.

9. #SPIDERGIRL: If the world needs an antidote to the outbreak of Palin fever, then Marvel Comics has come up with just that. It has unveiled its new superhero, SpiderGirl. The makers say she provides a positive, modern image of an empowered young woman and is not “sexualised”, or a “trophy girl”. Unlike most superheroes, she has no superpowers, but she is trained in martial arts and has excellent fighting skills.
