1.#BONDHOLDERS: A motion that will formally call on the Government to “burn the bondholders” will tonight be debated in the Dáil. The motion, signed by members of the Technical Group and independent TDs, calls for the destruction of €25 billion in sovereign bonds.

2.#MEDICAL CARD: MS sufferer Marie Fleming, whose attempts to be allowed end her own life made headlines around the world, was asked to prove that she was still sick – so that she could keep her medical card. The story in today’s Mirror quotes Fleming’s partner Tom Curran as saying he would break the law to allow Marie end her life.

3.#SCHOOLS: The numbers of people attending third-level education are on the rise. Tables printed today show that while fee-paying schools dominate the numbers advancing to university or higher points courses, the numbers are rising across the board.

4.#CONDEMNED: The US State Department has condemned yesterday’s attempted car-bombing in Belfast. The 59 kilo bomb had massive potential for damage, police said. State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki said that “those intent on violence will not deny Northern Ireland” peace.

5.#INDEPENDENCE DAY?: The Scottish Government will today present a white paper on how it would operate as a country independent from England. The country’s citizens will go to the polls next September to decide whether they want independence.

6.#GREECE: Media reports today cite a World Health Organisation report as saying that Greek people are giving themselves AIDS to avail of social welfare. However, that report is based on a two other reports that quote “suspicion”.

7.#ROADS: Ireland’s roads had their 170th road death last night. A man in his 20s was killed when the car he was a passenger in crashed into a tree near Garristown in north Dublin.

8.#BANKRUPTCY: New laws that will reduce the period of bankruptcy in Ireland from 12 to three years will come into effect “imminently”, the Department of Justice has said. The news follows yesterday’s confirmation that the first deal had been reached under personal insolvency legislation.

9.#SUICIDE: A new survey has shown that two-thirds of students in Ireland know someone who has died by suicide. The survey added that one in seven had been bullied online and 96 per cent had posted lies and rude comments about people online.
