1. #TALKS: The cabinet is to meet again today to continue talks on the government’s four-year economic plan, having met yesterday for over three hours.

2. #HUMAN TRAFFICKING: Two men have been arrested on charges of false imprisonment after two Latvian women, aged 19 and 25, were rescued from a house in Palmerston, west Dublin, the Irish Times reports.

3. #HIT AND RUN: A man in his 30s has been arrested after one young woman was killed and another injured in a hit and run in Gorey, Co Wexford, at the weekend.

4. #UNSAFE WATER: Up to 1.3m people could be drinking unsafe water from public supplies because almost 300 plants treating that water are old and need to be replaced, according to the Irish Independent.

5. #OFF SICK: The Small Firms Association says that absenteeism is costing small businesses over €563m a year. Last year, small businesses lost 3.9m days in total in sick days, breaking down to a national average of eight sick days.

6. #BLAME CULTURE: HSE staff are to take part in courses to teach them how to take responsibility for their actions, says the Irish Independent.

7. #TOURIST TRAP: Fáilte Ireland has introduced new ‘DIY kits’ to guide towns on using their history to draw in more tourists. The kit includes “simple steps to influence their visitors’ experience”.

8. #BRITAIN: The Guardian reports that the British military has been training its interrogators in methods which appear to breach the Geneva conventions, including sensory deprivation and enforced nakedness.

9. #ITALY: The mayor of an Italian beach resort town has ordered local police to fine women who wear short miniskirts or show too much cleavage in an effort, he says, to increase public decorum. Mayor Luigi Bobbio said police would not need to carry out the necessary checks “up close”.
