1. #DUBLIN BUS: Dublin Bus will operate a full service today following a three-day strike which affected hundreds of thousands of commuters. Both parties in the pay and conditions dispute have been invited to Labour Court talks later this afternoon.

2. #SHOOTING: A man is in hospital after walking into a Dublin garda station last night, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The man, aged in his 30s, is said to be in a serious but stable condition.

3. #MOBILE COSTS: Irish mobile users pay five times more than the cheapest EU rates, newly released figures from the European Commission show. The Consumers’ Association of Ireland has said EU legislation will be required to enforce price consistency in the mobile phone market.

4. #EVACUATED: A Dublin hotel was evacuated in the early hours of this morning after a fire broke out of the sixth floor. A small number of people at the DT Hotel, formerly the Burlington Hotel, received injuries but none are understood to be fire-related.

5. #REPOSSESSIONS: Ratings agency Fitch expects repossessions and the voluntary surrendering of properties in Ireland to increase, but only as “a last resort”. It added that long-term restructuring of Irish mortgages will become more prevalent now a “cohesive and credible framework for dealing with arrears has taken shape”.

6. #AER LINGUS: Aer Lingus has reported an almost 3 per cent increase in its passenger figures compared to this time last year, with just over 6 million people flying with the airline so far in 2013.

7. #ABORTION: A priest on the board of management in the Mater Hospital has said the facility “cannot comply” with carrying out abortions under the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Act. Fr Kevin Doran told the Irish Times that the issue was “broader” than just abortion, saying that hospitals were being told they “are not entitled to have an ethos”.

8. #KENYA: A massive fire has shut down east Africa’s most important transport hub, Nairobi international airport, this morning. Flights have been diverted to regional cities, according to officials.

9. #AVIAN FLU: Chinese scientists today reported the first likely case of direct person-to-person transmission of the H7N9 bird flu virus that has killed over 40 people since March. However, experts said people should not panic over the suspected development as the virus’s transmissibility remained “limited and non-sustainable”.
