• The High Court in Dublin has paved the way for Seán Quinn to be declared bankrupt in the Republic of Ireland – just hours after IBRC, formerly Anglo, had his bankruptcy in Northern Ireland annulled.
• A man will appear in court in Waterford this evening in connection with the death of an 83-year-old woman in a nursing home on Sunday evening.
• Tributes have been paid to the journalist and broadcaster Mary Raftery, who has died at the age of 54. Raftery created two landmark documentaries which exposed the scale of clerical sexual abuse in State educational institutions. • A spokesman for EU economics commissioner Olli Rehn says it is “not particularly helpful” to contemplate whether Ireland might need, or benefit from, a second bailout. He was responding to DCU economist Tony Foley who said Ireland should “pray” for a second bailout, given how expensive it might be to get back to the open markets.
• Employees of the lingerie chain La Senza are holding a sit-in at its Liffey Valley branch in a dispute over pay, after the company’s receivers laid off 100 staff and told them they would not receive money due for December overtime.
• Police in Derry are urging caution after a ‘loud explosion’ was reported in the city earlier today. No injuries or damage has been reported, but the cause of the sound remains unknown.
• The chairwoman of the Revenue Commissioners is to face questions from TDs tomorrow over its handling of the pensions row. Josephine Feehily will attend a meeting of the Oireachtas finance committee to answer questions.
• Remains found in the Dublin mountains at the weekend have been identified as those of missing 28-year-old James Kenny McDonagh.
