Here are the things we learned, loved and shared today.

Ornaments and antiques from Dunsborough Park: Garden Statuary from The Collection of Baron and Baroness Sweerts de Landas Wyborgh which are to be auctioned by Christie’s next week. The auction will feature over 500 lots all from Dunsborough Park which is in Ripley, Surrey.

HERE ARE THE things we learned, loved and shared today as we round off the day in three easy steps.

THINGS WE LEARNED:

#PSYCHIATRIC CARE: The death of a mother-of-two at the Psychiatric Unit at Roscommon Hospital has sparked calls for an independent inquiry into the quality of care at the facility. It is understood that the family of 38-year-old Sinéad McPartland Brennan believe the unit, at which she was receiving care, was understaffed when took her own life. A number of assaults on patients and staff have also recently been recorded at the unit.

#DOMESTIC ABUSE: A new report published today has shown that 3,276 victims of domestic abuse were assisted by the Commission for the Support of Victims of Crime (CSVC) last year – an increase of 13 per cent compared to 2011. Speaking after the publication of the report, Minister Alan Shatter said that the organisations funded by the commission provide “an invaluable service”.

#EMPLOYMENT: Newly released data has revealed employment levels in the European Union are still falling, with levels dropping 0.5 per cent in the first quarter of 2013. Overall, employment has dropped 0.2 per cent across the 27 European Union member states in contrast with the last quarter of 2012.

#WHITEY BULGER: The trial of notorious Boston gangster James ‘Whitey’ Bulger continued today, with a retired state police colonel Thomas Foley identifying six machine guns found during a 2000 investigation at a premises allegedly used by Bulger’s gang. Bulger, 83, is the former leader of the Winter Hill Gang and has been charged with a long list of crimes in a 32-count racketeering indictment, including participating in 19 killings. He was one of the FBI’s most wanted fugitives after he fled Boston in 1994 but was captured in Santa Monica, California, in 2011.

#APPEAL: Gardaí in Dublin are appealing for anyone with CCTV cameras in vehicles or properties on the South Circular Road, South Richmond St and Portobello to send them footage as they investigate the sexual assault of a woman with special needs in the area yesterday. Detectives say a female in her mid-20s was walking along the South Circular Road towards Harrington Street between 4pm and 4.15pm on when she was accosted. Gardaí said that media reports that a male offender has been identified are not true.

Mother Kirana looks after one of her Tiger cubs, born on the June 3, as they are seen in public for the first time at Chester Zoo.

THINGS WE LOVED:

  • Only a fool would believe everything they read on Wikipedia, right? That doesn’t mean it’s not a mine of creepy and strange stories, syndromes, incidents and accidents – here are five of the creepiest.
  • These shockingly profound Disney movie quotes
  • If you happen to live Brighton, are looking for a flat-share, and you have a penchant for dressing as a walrus – then you are in luck. Probably for the first time in your life.

THINGS WE SHARED:

Some people say ladybirds just aren’t funny. We respectfully disagree.
