Revealed: Ireland's first discount pub will be called...

The pub is expected to create around 60 jobs.

THE FIRST PREMISES opened by UK discount pub chain JD Wetherspoon will open on July 8 and will be called the Three Tun Tavern.

The pub will open on the site of the former Tonic Bar on Carysfort Avenue in Blackrock, Co Dublin.

The British company bought the site for €1.5 million last year and is planning a similar venture in Cork city.

Work will begin on the Blackrock site in March, with a July 8 opening date pencilled in. Work and fitting on the pub is expected to cost €1.5 million and the company says it will create 60 full and part time jobs.

The pub is to be managed by Kerryman John Hartigan, who has managed a Wetherspoon’s in London for the last 13 years.

The company owns over 800 outlets across the UK and is known for its low prices and long opening hours.

They recently caused some controversy by opening the UK’s first motorway services pub.
