Thieves steal tools after breaking INTO British prison

Inmates told local newspaper that the prison break-in was “hilarious” and questioned how they could securely be kept inside, if it was so easy to break in.

BURGLARS WHO BROKE into Sudbury Prison in Derbyshire, England, at the weekend managed to steal tools, hoses and oxyacetylene cylinders used in prisoner workshops.

The break-in at the open prison was reported to police by prison staff on Monday morning.

The Derby Telegraph reports that one prisoner said: “How can they be expected to keep the prisoners in if they can’t keep the burglars out?”

The paper reports that the prison, which was originally built as a hospital for the US Air Force during the D-Day landings, has been criticised for the number of prisoners going missing in recent years. Since 2008, 70 prisoners have absconded from the facility.
