Three arrested as arms and pipe bombs seized in Kilkenny

Gardaí say the operation was part of an ongoing investigation into a number of robberies and aggravated burglaries in the area.

THREE MEN HAVE been arrested after arms, ammunition and pipe bombs in the early stages of manufacture were seized in Kilkenny yesterday morning.

Gardaí in Thomastown say that as part of an on-going investigation into a number of robberies and aggravated burglaries in south Kilkenny three men, all in their 20s, were arrested yesterday morning.

Six searches were carried out during which two pipe bombs in the early stages of manufacture, firearms, ammunition and a quantity of cash were seized.

The three men are being detained under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act. One of them is being held in Waterford, the other two in Thomastown.
