THERE MUST BE something in the water in Cloonfad, County Roscommon. Three sisters have given birth all on the same day.

Mairead Fitzpatrick told RTÉ’s News at One that she and two of her sisters are all doing well following the births at Mayo General Hospital yesterday.

Four sisters out of five are pregnant.

The fourth sister is still awaiting her new arrival.

“Christina is still waiting. She was due on Sunday,” she said. She said they hoped there would be movement either today or tomorrow morning.

Mairead said she had her baby boy in the early hours of the morning, followed by her sister Jolene and Bernie.

“It just seemed so funny the way it happened,” said Fitzpatrick.

The sisters all seemed to be in sequence with the timing of the births correlating with the number of children they have.

“It’s my my first, Jolene’s second, Bernie’s third and Christina’s fourth.”

She thanked all the staff at the hospital for their great work and said they were all pretty shocked at the day’s events.

“They couldn’t believe it, they thought it was crazy,” said Fitzpatrick. A number of nurses delivered the cousins, she said.

“We didn’t think this would all happen on the same day.”

The only brother has since returned to England, where he lives, but she said he’s hoping all christenings will be held on the same day.
