Three fishermen dead after boat capsizes off Co Waterford

The three men were aboard a fishing punt which is thought to have overturned in Tramore Bay.

THREE MEN have died after their small fishing boat capsized in waters off Co Waterford.

The men had been out in a 20-foot ‘punt’, a small man-powered fishing boat, about half a mile off Brownstown Head near Tramore.

It is understood that the alarm was raised when local fisherman realised that the vessel had not returned from its trip.

A search and rescue helicopter from Waterford, and a RNLI lifeboat from Dunmore East, were dispatched at about 5:45pm.

The helicopter identified the first casualty ten minutes later, while the lifeboat identified and recovered the second casualties shortly afterwards.
