THREE PEOPLE HAVE been hospitalised following an explosion at a house in Leixlip in County Kildare.

Bord Gáis Networks has advised that the blast occurred at number 48 Riverdale Court after they were asked to attend to a suspected leak at the neighbouring house.

At about 8.25pm yesterday, technical staff were called out to number 49 as the residents suspected a gas leak. Following an initial assessment, Bord Gáis assembled a larger crew to carry out further investigations.

The crew were still on site at the first address when the explosion happened at about 12.30am. The extent of the three people’s injuries is not yet known.

Another three houses in the area were evacuated and the area has now been made safe.

In a statement Bord Gáis said it was co-operating with the authorities and emergency services to establish the cause of the incident.
