FANCY A GOOD old-fashioned session? Want to experience some of the best contemporary trad musicians performing in Ireland today?

The next week is jam-packed with events and gigs to satisfy your cravings.

Corofin Trad Fest

When: Until March 4th

Where: Corofin, Co Clare

If you’re a trad lover, there’s only one place to be this weekend and that’s Corofin. The Co Clare village will once again host Corofin Trad Fest, which will see musicians descends on the village for a week of concerts, sessions, workshops, and more.

Teach Ceoil will be at the centre of the action with concerts taking place every night with some of the country’s leading trad musicians. Additionally, local pubs like Bofey Quinn’s, Crowleys, Jimmy Daffy’s, Mack’s and The Angler’s Rest will be hosting almighty trad sessions every evening.

The Cobblestone

When: Every night

Where: The Cobblestone, Smithfield, Dublin 7

Widely regarded as one of the city’s leading trad venues, The Cobblestone is a must-visit for anyone wishing to get in on an intimate trad session. The Smithfield pub hosts top quality trad sessions every night. Pop along on the first Tuesday of the month for the Pipers Seisiún.

Lankum at Roisin Dubh

When: March 11th

Where: Roisin Dubh, Galway

Lankum, formerly known as Lynched, are one of the most exciting and innovative trad bands performing in Ireland today – they were even likened to “The Flaming Horslips” by Uncut. They’re currently touring their sophomore album Between the Earth and Sky and bring their exhilarating live show to Roisin Dubh next week. Not one to be missed.

Garth Knox and Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh

When: March 1st, 10.30pm

Where: National Concert Hall

Last year, acclaimed musicians Garth Knox and Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh collaborated on an album entitled All Soundings Are True. The result is a delicate contemporary folk/trad album that ought to appeal to fans of The Gloaming.

The pair will play an intimate late night gig in National Concert Hall as part of New Music Dublin and it promises to be magic.
