Two deaths of young men confirmed in separate collisions in Galway and Cork in recent days

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information or footage of the incident to make it available.

LAST UPDATE | 12 hrs ago

TWO DEATHS HAVE been reported by gardaí today due to recent collisions on Irish roads.

A man in his 20s, who was a driver involved in a single-vehicle collision in Co Galway, has died in hospital after the incident, which took place on Friday.

Another man, also in his 20s, was pronounced dead this morning at the scene of a single-vehicle collision on a road between Bantry and Ballydehob in Co Cork.

Gardaí are appealing for information in relation to the separate incidents and are inviting contact through any garda station – particularly Tuam Garda Station on 093 70840 or Bantry Garda Station on 02 720 860, respectively – or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.

Galway collision

Gardaí say they are still investigating the incident that occurred between 1.30am and 2.30am on Friday morning on the R360 at Ballintava, near the town of Dunmore.

The driver and passenger, both in their 20s, were taken to University Hopital Galway for treatment. The passenger’s injuries were described as “not life threatening”.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward.

Additionally, they are requesting those with camera footage, including motorists with dashcam, who were travelling in the area of Ballintava, Dunmore, Co. Galway on Friday 18th October between 1.30am and 2.30am, to make it available.

Cork collision

Gardaí were alerted to the collision in Cork at 9am this morning.

“The driver, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was transported to Cork University Hospital for a post mortem examination,” a garda statement said.

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are conducting a technical examination of the scene.

Gardaí are asking to hear from anyone who was traveling between Bantry and Ballydehob during Sunday night or early hours of Monday morning, especially anyone who may have video footage, such as from a dash-cam.
