Retired surgeon Michael Shine to face trial on charges of indecent assault

Some of the charges date back 50 years.

A RETIRED CONSULTANT surgeon accused of indecent assault dating back over 50 years has had a trial date set at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Dr Michael Shine (83) of Wellington House, Wellington Road, Dublin was sent forward from the District Court on eight charges of indecently assaulting six different victims on dates between November 1964 and June 1991.

Judge Melanie Greally set a trial date for 2 October, 2017 and a pre-trial hearing date for 7 July, 2017. Dr Shine was remanded on continuing bail.

The trial is expected to last two weeks.
