A sad loss.

THE SAD PASSING of actor Alan Rickman at the age of 69 was confirmed this morning.

And stars of stage and screen have been quick to pay emotional tribute to the late English actor:

Oliver Phelps, who played George Weasley in the Harry Potter franchise, tweeted his praise of a legend

And Boy George regarded his appearances in Harry Potter as “genius”

His Harry Potter co-star Daniel Radcliffe shared his thoughts on Google Plus

Alan Rickman is undoubtedly one of the greatest actors I will ever work with. He is also, one of the loyalest and most supportive people I’ve ever met in the film industry. He was so encouraging of me both on set and in the years post-Potter.

Read the full tribute here.

Dara Ó Briain referenced his iconic role in Die Hard

In a week that David Bowie was lost as well

This afternoon, they have been sharing their favourite memories of Rickman on screen

The memories of his many quotes have come flooding out

The whole acting community has come together in grief

And Game of Thrones’ Richard Madden mourned a friend

And the creator of Snape himself had this fine tribute

RIP Alan Rickman :(

When you watched a movie starring Alan Rickman it almost had another dimension. It was as if he was in the room with you rather than on the box. He owned every scean and made you smile and root for the bad guy. He had an intangible quality that I can only describe as magic and I cannot think of anyone else that even comes close.
You really don’t realise how much you like, admire and appreciate someone until they are taken away.
I never met Alan and knew nothing of him as a person and yet Iam moved by his passing more than I expected.
I can only imagine the sense of loss for those close to him.

Not only a great villain, he did a heartrending turn as Colonel Brandon in Sense and Sensibility. A huge loss, genuinely upset he’s gone.

He was different class in Robin Hood: POT. He gave the Sheriff of Nottingham so many different layers, a bad guy but with great wit. The scene where he stabs Guy of Gisbourne and then proclaims “Well at least I didn’t use a spoon” is probably my favourite line from any movie ever.

    RIP Alan.
