Donald Trump tells the Sun he told Theresa May how to do Brexit but she wrecked it

The US President didn’t mince his words in the wide-ranging interview.

US PRESIDENT DONALD Trump has said that Theresa May has killed off any chance of a trade deal with the US post-Brexit, in an interview with the Sun.

It comes after Trump arrived earlier today for his first trip to the UK as President, where he is expected to hold talks with May tomorrow, as well as meeting the Queen.

In the interview, Trump said that Theresa May ignored his advice by opting for a softer Brexit strategy with the EU.

In a wide-ranging interview, Trump said that former foreign secretary Boris Johnson – who resigned earlier this week – would make a “great prime minister”, and demanded that the UK and other NATO countries spend more on defence.

He also went on the attack against London Mayor Sadiq Khan, with whom he has exchanged harsh words in the past.

Trump accused Khan of not standing up to terrorists, and added that he felt “sadness” at feeling unwelcome in the UK capital where he is expected to face protests tomorrow.

On the EU, Trump attacked May’s much-maligned softer Brexit stance that has angered many Brexiteers.

He told the Sun: “If they do a deal like that, we would be dealing with the European Union instead of dealing with the UK, so it will probably kill the deal. If they do that, then their trade deal with the US will probably not be made.

The deal she is striking is a much different deal than the one the people voted on. It was not the deal that was in the referendum. I have just been hearing this over the last three days. I know they have had a lot of resignations. So a lot of people don’t like it.

He was also given an England shirt by the Sun, to which he replied “oh wow. I love gifts.”

Trump added: ““You don’t hear the word England as much as you should. I think England is a beautiful name.”
