TV3 says it is not laying off all of its staff

It will, however, hope to move on less than ten staff.

BROADCASTER TV3 SAYS that reports that it is looking to lay off its entire workforce are inaccurate.

Reports in today’s newspapers suggest that all staff have been offered voluntary redundancy, with reports saying that it is a sign that the company is in trouble.

However, a spokesperson for TV3 told TheJournal.ie that the company offers staff voluntary redundancy every year in order to ensure flexibility and avoid the company becoming overstaffed.

The spokesperson added that there are only two departments who are being offered the deal and indications are that less than 10 people will be let go.

Every year TV3 runs limited VL programmes to get turnover in areas where we want some flexibility to move people.

“This is HR best practice.

“In this instance the opportunity to apply for VL is opened to two departments and no one has yet been accepted. We expect a very small number of people to get a VL package”.

TV3 has come under pressure with the imminent arrival of UTV to Irish shores, taking a host of TV3′s flagship shows.

The announcement that Sky had picked up a GAA package previously held by TV3 increased speculation around the station’s future.
