Two due to appear in court in Cavan over alleged extortion

Both men were arrested yesterday in connection with an alleged extortion attempt in Co Monaghan.

TWO MEN ARE due in court in Cavan today after being charged in connection with an alleged extortion attempt in Co Monaghan.

The men, aged 30 and 39,  were arrested on Friday morning in Dundalk by Gardaí from Monaghan who were assisted by the Garda Emergency Response Unit.

They were then detained under the provisions of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Monaghan Garda Station.

Both are expected to appear before a Special Sitting of Cavan District Court this afternoon at 4.30pm charged in connection with this investigation.
