THE FEBRUARY BANK holiday is just around the corner, but have you ever wanted a few more public holidays?
Well, People Before Profit is bringing forward legislation to introduce two extra bank holidays, with suggested dates being the last Monday in September and the last Monday in November.
Dublin South-West TD Paul Murphy says Ireland is lagging behind other European countries with just 11 paid public holidays, in comparison to Germany and Sweden which have 13 paid public holidays, while Italy has 14 and Austria has 15.
So today we’re asking: Should we get two more bank holidays?
Poll Results:

Was never a fan of Hitler but didn’t know he was on a blacklist of people that can’t be spoken about, would be interesting to see who else is on it……….
Except she quite clearly had mental issues when she said that and possibly still does. She was suffering from trauma after having an anyuresm, and depression from her fiancée’s death. She was saying all sorts of wild crap. Seemed to me she was a paranoid schizophrenic and posted videos about how government agencies were following her because she was spreading “the truth” about how:
“the government now has a way to send out frequencies on your tv that you cannot hear but it highly affects your brain….I have been studying this for the past seven years and have kept quiet about it until now. I chat with other groups of people who also know about THE OTHERS”
- direct quote.
She was clearly suffering from mental illness and needed medical help.
And I don’t know how BB missed any of this. It’s mentioned on her wiki page.
Absolutely agree with you gkrell. I remember that episode and thinking at the time that she was having a breakdown, that it was possibly schizophrenia. Her comment does suggest schizophrenia.
“the government now has a way to send out frequencies on your tv that you cannot hear but it highly affects your brain….I have been studying this for the past seven years and have kept quiet about it until now. I chat with other groups of people who also know about THE OTHERS”
So she had a delusion that frequencies on TV were affecting her brain and this was orchestrated by the “Others”. There’s two symptoms of schizophrenia this matches…
“Delusions of reference – A neutral environmental event is believed to have a special and personal meaning. For example, a person with schizophrenia might believe a billboard or a person on TV is sending a message meant specifically for them.”
“Delusions of control – Belief that one’s thoughts or actions are being controlled by outside, alien forces. Common delusions of control include thought broadcasting (“My private thoughts are being transmitted to others”), thought insertion (“Someone is planting thoughts in my head”), and thought withdrawal (“The CIA is robbing me of my thoughts”).”
It’s interesting to read about James Tilly Matthews (1770 – 1815), the earliest documented case of schizophrenia, who 150 years before TV and brain altering frequencies held the unshakable delusion that a gang of criminals were influencing his brain using a machine he called the “Air Loom” that operated on the principal of “pneumatic chemistry”. It is remarkable that the symptoms of schizophrenia remain the same in people separated by culture and time.
Total airhead anyways seeing the likes of her and Jenna Jameson on a show like big brother, I could think of plenty of things I’d rather do like watch paint dry! As for blaming depression smh! Depression does not make you make public statements like that! I think her head has being bounced off the headboard a few too any times
Endemol knew all about it, they get lots of free publicity from it, and she gets her talentless ass back in the headlines for a bit. Everyone’s a winner. Now, who watches this crap? And why??
without in any shape or form condoning the atrocities perpetrated by Hitler your now not allowed to have an opinion on history that took place good or bad how enlightened
Winston Churchill said after the war that the Allies backed the wrong horse and should have supported Nazi Germany against the USSR. If you say that today you’ll be blacklisted from pretty much everywhere.
The title should be “faded celebrities Big Brother”
I watched it last night and it must be so embarrassing for the “celebrities” to decide to be part of this show. On the other hand they need the money and it is watched by many.
I only recognised the Guy who used to be in the Bill and the woman who used to be in Benidorm!
I’m a fully paid up loony leftie member of the pc brigade and I have sympathy for Hitler. A bit more understanding and a lot less condemnation would not go amiss. What ever her name is welcome for a chat on my sofa any time. Bless.
While I have never watched this, it does strike me that her human rights are being violated in that she is being punished for freely expressing her opinion.
If she said she loved David Ben Gurion and dressed in Irgun uniform would she have been subject to the same sanction?
I think I saw ‘Anal teen Mums’. Wasn’t it a fly on the wall reality TV series documenting the struggles in the daily lives of young mothers with Asperger Syndrome.
What ‘celebrity’ will they put in next? ”Loveable Oirish rogue Stephen Clinch, from successful RTE crime drama Love/Hate?
I genuinely thought the producers couldn’t sink any lower than putting Helen Wood back in to deliberate tyrannise people in this year’s regular BB, after she was warned for agressive bullying twice last year. Her claim to fame is sleeping with Wayne Rooney (as a prostitute) while Coleen was pregnant. Helen might just even be classier than Tila , Jenna or ‘Anal Teen Mom’, Farrah.
Gladitorial contests where people had to fight off hungry wild animals don’t seem so barbarbic anymore.
