Man released from custody in investigation into body found in Mayo apartment

Gardaí were alerted to the incident shortly after 11.45pm last night.

ONE MAN HAS been released from custody after being arrested earlier today as part of an investigation into the discovery of a man’s body inside a Co Mayo apartment overnight.

Another man, who is in his 30s, was also arrested and is still in custody.

The man who has been released without charge is in his 20s.

Shortly after 11.45pm last night, gardaí were alerted to an incident at a residential property on Tone Street in Ballina.

A man in his late 50s was found inside an apartment with serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two men who were arrested in connection with the incident were detained at a garda station in the North Western Region.

The local coroner was notified and the services of the Garda Technical Bureau and State Pathologist were requested.

A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed to lead the investigation and an incident room has been established at Ballina Garda Station.

A Family Liaison Officer has also been appointed to support the deceased’s family.

The scene has been preserved for a forensic and technical examination and a post-mortem examination has been arranged.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward, particularly anyone with camera footage or dashcam recordings from road users in the Tone Street area and nearby locations around the time of the incident.
