Two still held over Waterford pipe bomb

Device discovered in car as men drove on the outskirts of the city.

TWO MEN ARE BEING HELD by gardaí investigating the discovery of a pipe bomb outside Waterford city on Friday.

The device was discovered in their car when the men were stopped by gardaí investigating dissident republican activity.

The car was stopped on the N25, two miles outside Waterford, in the early hours of Friday morning.

The Irish Independent reports that the army bomb disposal team was called to the scene, but no controlled explosion was carried out.

The men were arrested and are being questioned at Waterford Garda Station, according to RTÉ.
