BACK IN OCTOBER, actress Uma Thurman’s powerful response to the allegations against film producer Harvey Weinstein went viral.
At the premiere of her new play, she was asked for her thoughts on women sharing their stories of inappropriate behaviour in Hollywood.
Speaking with carefully controlled rage, she said:
I don’t have a tidy soundbite for you because I’ve learned that I’m not a child. I’ve learned that when I’ve spoken in anger, I usually regret the way that I express myself.
“I’ve been waiting to feel less angry and when I’m ready I’ll say what I’ve got to say,” she concluded.
After a few weeks of silence on the subject, she referenced the video yesterday in a Thanksgiving message on Instagram.
She added her name to the growing number of people coming forward with stories of sexual harassment, using the hashtag #MeToo, which has become the unofficial slogan of the movement.
I am grateful today, to be alive, for all those I love, and for all those who have the courage to stand up for others. I said I was angry recently, and I have a few reasons. #MeToo, in case you couldn’t tell by the look on my face.
I feel it’s important to take your time, be fair, be exact, so… Happy Thanksgiving everyone! (Except you Harvey, and all your wicked conspirators – I’m glad it’s going slowly – you don’t deserve a bullet.) Stay tuned, Uma Thurman.
It’s worth noting that the picture she posted alongside the message is from the opening credits of Kill Bill 2 (which was produced by Weinstein). She means business.
