San Fran's Union Square temporarily shut down due to bomb scare

A suspicious bag led to the evacuation of the square.

A PRIME TOURIST location in San Francisco was shut down for two hours today due to a bomb scare.

According to ABC7 News, the scare was caused by a suspicious backpack.

Union Square was shut down for two hours as police investigated the bag, concluding that it did not have explosives in it, said the San Francisco Chronicle.

It has since been reopened.

The scare had meant runners picking up items for the Nike Women’s Marathon, which is due to be held on Sunday, were among those who had to leave the area.
