US ambassador to Ireland Dan Rooney to step down, says son

The United States’ ambassador to Ireland will step down from his position this year, his son told reporters in Pennsylvania today.

THE UNITED STATES’ ambassador to Ireland, Dan Rooney, will step down from his position this year, according to his son.

Speaking to the media in Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania today, Art Rooney II said that his father would step down from his position in order to rejoin the Pittsburgh Steelers. Rooney Sr is the former chairman of the football team.

However, Art Rooney did not specify what role his father might have, reports IrishCentral.com.

Dan Rooney’s alleged departure may mean the US will appoint a new ambassador to Ireland before the general election.

Rooney was a key player in Barack Obama’s 2008 election campaign.
