Another US cop shot and killed - this time in Florida

The incident comes a day after two police officers were killed in Brooklyn.

Updated 7.30pm

FLORIDA AUTHORITIES SAY a police officer was shot and killed in Tarpon Springs early today.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that the shooting occurred at around 3am in the Tampa Bay-area city and that a suspect has been taken into custody.

Authorities say the suspect fled the scene of the shooting in a vehicle and crashed into a pole and another vehicle. He was then apprehended by police at that location.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said the officer was a member of the Tarpon Springs Police Department, though no names have been released.

A news conference is to be held later today.
