US couple picked Ireland for first ever overseas trip in 2001 and are now marking 21st visit

The couple have received a free holiday to mark the milestone.

WILMA AND DANIEL Kehoe decided to make their first ever trip overseas in 2001 when Daniel retired.

They picked Ireland and they’ve managed to fit in 21 trips in the space of 14 years, saying, “We are still as excited as our first visit back in 2001.”

To mark their 21st trip the couple from Upstate New York have been given a free holiday by CIE Tours.

They’ll also be celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary on the visit.

“We liked our first trip that we just kept coming back.

We have been back so many times that the tour guides know us well and always give us a great welcome. Indeed to mark out 18th trip, the tour guide gave us a toy CIE bus for taking so many tours with them.

Daniel’s grandparents hailed from Silvermines, Co.Tipperary and Roscommon. A retired chemistry professor, he initially came back to trace his ancestors and quickly developed an interest in local history and the Irish language.

At this stage I have a few cupla focaill and really enjoy the warm hospitality.

“We brought our two sons in 2013 and they too became fascinated with their ancestry and enjoyed visiting different parts of the country.

“What attracts us back every time is the sense of culture, history, beautiful scenery, family connections and the happiness that each tour has brought”

“The Ring of Kerry, Connemara and Donegal are particular favourites and we are so well looked after in the hotels where we have stayed. Twenty one trips later

“This year we are taking in the Explorer tour which takes in the Ulster Folk Park, Donegal, Galway, Killarney and finishing with two nights in Dublin.”
