2018 BMW 5 Series 530e, €60,445

THE BMW 530e plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) is a large luxury saloon that uses less fuel than a small city car (2.0-litre/100km) and has low CO2 emissions (44g/km) so it should appeal to those who are looking for a car with green credentials. On a full charge, the electric motor can power the car for around 50km.

The Toyota Yaris hybrid is a great city car especially because it can disengage the petrol engine entirely and run solely on battery power in EV mode for 2km up to a speed of 50km/h. That means it is perfect for congested city driving. It has a claimed fuel economy of 3.3 litres/100km.
