Blackdam Court residents were evacuated after the device was discovered in a car yesterday afternoon.

A DEVICE discovered in north Belfast yesterday afternoon was a viable explosive, according to the PSNI.

A number of homes were evacuated in the Blackdam Court area after the device was discovered in a car, sparking a security alert.

An Ammunition Technical Officer attended the scene and disposed of the device in a controlled explosion. No one was injured.

The device has been taken away for further examination and residents who were evacuated earlier in the day were able to return to their homes yesterday evening.
