Viable explosive device made safe in Dublin

The explosive device was found under a car in the early hours of this morning.

AN ARMY BOMB disposal team has made safe a viable explosive device found under a car in Dublin overnight.

The Defence Forces were alerted by Gardaí following the discovery of the improvised explosive device (IED) at the residential estate in the Greenhills Drive area of south Dublin just after 4am.

The explosive device was made safe at the scene without the need for a controlled explosion. A number of residents of area were evacuated as the bomb squad examined the device.

The scene was declared safe at 5am. The remains of the device will be handed over to the Gardaí to assist with their investigations.
