Video: Hawaii's volcano Kilauea erupts

Dramatic images from the weekend’s volcanic activity on Hawaii’s Big Island after a crater floor on the Kilauea volcano collapsed.

THE KILAUEA VOLCANO IN Hawaii erupted dramatically at the weekend, sending jets of lava up to 80 feet into the air, according to the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.

Kilauea is an active volcano with constant eruptions since 1983, but a volcanic crater floor collapsed on Saturday, allowing the lava new channels to flow through and pushing the molten rock high into the air.

The volcano is located in a in a remote part of the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and no homes are in danger, but part of the park has been sealed off to visitors in case of further activity or volcanic vent collapse.

The ITN news report below says that locals have been warned that greater eruptions could follow, given the recently increased seismic activity in the area. About 150 small earthquakes have been recorded within Kilaeue in the past 24 hours:
