Video: Woman charged over racist tram rant that went viral

A UK woman was arrested after the clip showed somebody telling black passengers to “get back to your own countries”.

A WOMAN HAS been arrested in the UK over a YouTube clip showing a tram passenger hurling racial abuse black people around her.

In the video, a woman – who is cradling a toddler – tells black fellow passengers “You ain’t British, you’re black” and to “get back to your own fucking countries.” She shouts “There’s nothing now. My Britain is fuck  all”.

When another woman asks her to stop swearing because there are children on the tram, she shouts: “So what? I’ve got a little boy here [...] Go back to Nicaragua or wherever you come from.”

A 34-year-old woman from New Addington in London was arrested yesterday and charged with a racially aggravated public order offence, This Is Croydon Today reports.

It’s thought the tram was a service between New Addington and Wimbledon in south London. At one point in the video the passenger gestures around the crowded cabin and shouts: “It’s all black and brown people.”

The clip went viral on Twitter yesterday, trending under the hashtag #MyTramExperience as users expressed their shock at the woman’s outburst. Celebrities including Piers Morgan also posted their opinions.

According to the BBC, the woman is due to appear in court later today.
