Volkswagen's pocket rocket Polo GTI goes on sale in Ireland

The most powerful Volkswagen Polo is priced from €32,395.

THE NEW 200HP Volkswagen Polo GTI is now on sale in Volkswagen retailers across Ireland, priced from €32,395.

Volkswagen ups the ante in the latest Polo GTI which is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 200hp and 320Nm of torque and comes with a six-speed DSG gearbox as standard. It can go from a standstill to 100km/h in 6.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 237 km/h.

Fuel consumption is quoted as 5.9 litres/100km and CO2 is 134g/km. This places it in Tax Band B2 which is €280 per year.

Styling cues are taken from the bigger Golf GTI with the familiar red stripe in the radiator grille, and the Polo GTI rides on 17-inch “Milton Keynes” alloy wheels.

Inside the Volkswagen Polo GTI shows-off its GTI specifications immediately with the characteristic “Clark” plaid seat covers and GTI gear selector. It also shows off its Volkswagen characteristics with its conservative yet slick dashboard layout.

Standard equipment includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Park Distance Control, an electronic differential lock and driving profile selection.

To add some optional extras, buyers can opt for a Technology Upgrade, which includes a rear view camera, Active Info Display, folding mirrors and the ‘Lights and Vision’ Package. This can be had for €499, a saving of €1,183 compared to these items priced individually.
