This iconic VW campervan is the closest you'll get to happiness on wheels

There is no better way to see the world than from behind the wheel of this week’s dream car.

IF I HAD the money I’d buy…

An adventure seeker, a storyteller, a memory maker. Yes I am talking about a car, well, a campervan to be exact but not just any camper. I’m talking about the King of Campers, a camper that looks as smiley and cheerful as those behind the wheel.

I’d buy the classic Volkswagen Type 2 hippy wagon.

Why a Volkswagen Type 2 camper?

Well, if you are going to buy a camper you might as well buy the most iconic and coolest camper the world over.

Packing up a T2 camper and hitting the road less travelled is the stuff of legend. If you haven’t had your T2 adventure yet, well, now is your chance. What are you waiting for?

What’s special about this particular one?

This 1969 camper is known as a ‘Bay’ due to its bay front window and has a Devon Pop Top roof. It has had a full restoration and has been completely reupholstered with cream and tan leather and retro-style black and white floor.

This is one very cool way to head out on the high way, looking for adventure.

What does it look like in action?

Who else drives one?

The Vee Dub Type 2 is beloved by many, including chef Jamie Oliver who travelled around Italy in one for his show Jamie’s Great Italian Escape. F1 driver Jenson Button owns a 1956 model and sleeps in it at Silverstone GP. Drive Tribe’s Richard Hammond owns one and actor Martin Clunes owns two.

It costs €20,000. What else could you get for the money?

For the same money, you could have this new 171 Volkswagen Polo Beats Edition

… or this 27ft Elysian motor cruiser.
