This iconic VW T2 camper comes with its own mini-caravan for extra cool

Make like Hugh Jackman and Jamie Oliver with a retro-inspired VW hippy wagon.

IF I HAD the money I’d buy…

A classic camper with added space so I could take all the family on a summer road trip in style. A desirable van jampacked with features so that I could hit the open road at my own pace. I’d buy a Volkswagen T2 camper with a very cool Eriba Puck mini caravan.

Why a Volkswagen Camper?

Say ‘campervan’ to anyone and the VW will instantly pop into their head. It’s iconic, it’s cool, and it’s a rite of passage for drivers who want to get out on the open road and explore the world in style. Yes, VW campers put a smile on the face of all who drive them but the reason they’ve lasted so many years is, of course, their reliability. These guys seem to run and run and run. As for the mini Eriba Puck caravan, well… a cool camper needs an even cooler companion, right?

What’s special about this particular one?

This particular T2 model is a 1973 bay window version. Imported from Arizona, it has had a full nut and bolt restoration including a reconditioned engine, refurbished suspension and disc brakes.

It looks fab with its new paint job, keeping the original white and orange palette with a sleek chrome trim on the body, windows and bumper.

The interior is just as retro, with two-tone seat covers, new oatmeal coloured carpets, an original Campmobile fridge/cooler, a sink, a Rock & Roll double bed and a kiddie bunk.

Additionally, the 1979 mini-caravan has cooking facilities, six seats and a double bed of its own.

What does it look like in action?

Who else drives one?

Volkswagen campers are loved the world over, so you’ll be in good company. Actor Hugh Jackman has a VW camper with gorgeous white wall tyres. Chef Jamie Oliver toured Italy in one for his show Jamie’s Great Italian Escape. Drive Tribe’s Richard Hammond owns one, actor Martin Clunes owns two and Formula One driver Jenson Button owns a 1956 model. He even sleeps in it at Silverstone GP.
