Wake of Michaela McAreavey taking place in Tyrone

Hundreds of people have come to pay their respects to 27-year-old Michaela McAreavey.

THE WAKE OF Michaela McAreavey, the daughter of Tyrone manager Mickey Harte, is currently taking place in Ballygawley, Co Tyrone.

Yesterday, the body of the 27-year-old was brought home to Ireland from Mauritius, where she and her husband, John McAreavey, had been honeymooning.

Hundreds of people lined the streets to show their respects as the hearse drove to the Harte family home; friends and neighbours lit candles, and members of the Tyrone GAA club formed a guard of honour.

Tributes have poured out for Michaela, an Irish teacher and former Rose of Tralee contestant, RTÉ reports.

The Bishop of Dromore John McAreavey, who married the couple said that his nephew had adored his wife:

She was the love of his life, absolutely and truly. He adored her and talked about her with such warmth; he loved everything about her.

I have a sense that a light has gone out with the death of Michaela.

Michaela was found murdered in her hotel room at the Legends Hotel in Mauritius on Monday. Three men have been charged in connection with her killing.

Michaela’s funeral will take place next Monday in St Malachy’s Church, Ballymacilroy, Co Tyrone – the same church in which she was married on 30 December.
