One arrest after man found with head injuries on Christmas Day dies

The man, aged in his 20s, passed away in hospital yesterday evening.

AN ARREST HAS been made following the death of a man in Waterford city.

The man, aged in his 20s, was found with serious head injuries on Margaret’s Avenue at around 8pm on Christmas Day.

Gardaí say he was taken to Waterford University Hospital but died from his injuries yesterday evening.

A man in his his 40s was arrested this morning in the Waterford City area by gardaí investigating the death. He is currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Waterford Garda Station.

A post mortem is due to be carried out on the deceased this afternoon by the State Pathologist Dr. Marie Cassidy.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses that may have been in or around the Margaret’s Avenue area of Waterford on the evening of the Christmas Day to contact Waterford Garda Station on 051-305300, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
